THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 04/09/2014 Search continues for Shannon Rippy, another Sparks flick, Lifetime, How and Why, HGTV, Dinner with the Stars

Happy Hump Day my Wilmywood peeps!  Oh boy, as if last week wasn’t enough info to keep us 5 crews deep for the year, we got more intel coming in about new projects and some fun tidbits of those that are here.

RumorslogoFirst off, Under the Dome is shooting in Burgaw today. Have a great shoot my film peeps!

Now, let’s get right to it, my favorite thing to write about.  It’s time for Rumors from the Lot!!

choiceNow, having one Nicholas Sparks flick in Wilmywood is pretty awesome, but what if there were two?  Well, there might just be.  According to my sources, Nicholas Sparks is looking for a triple play, but not in book order.  The Best of Me (2010 Novel, shooting in New Orleans now), The Longest Ride (2013 Novel, pre-production in Wilmington now) and now the latest rumors from the lot say he is jumping back a good 7 years to bring The Choice (2007 Novel, currently in development) to the big screen.  And word has it, Wilmywood is high on their list when it comes to a production home.

Sparks however isn’t the only one sniffing around.  My sources are telling me that Lifetime has been giving Wilmywood a wink and a nod as a possible hub for one of their projects.  Which one?  Well, I can speculate, however, I’d rather not jump the gun on that quite yet.

VIEW POTENTIAL 2014 WILMYWOOD FILM SLATE

Charlie-KaufmanAs we gear for the highly anticipated pilot, How and Why from FX, get ready for quite a cast.  So far we know John Hawkes, Michael Cera, Julia Sarah Stone, Sally Hawkins, and Catherine Keener have signed on.  But we can expect to hear more casting news. From what I hear, it’s going to be quite a large cast.  Oh and FYI, we will be welcoming into town the one and only Charlie Kauffman next week!

Bolden! is set to open offices in Rocky Point on April 21st.  I am hearing Atlanta as well as Wilmywood again.  Though I don’t yet know which city they will be filming first.  As far as who will replace Anthony Mackie is yet to be made public.

Christmas in Conway is back in Forest Hills and Eastbound and Down is on the lot today.

Word has it, Lindsay Lohan is still in town.  Although she was wrapped by the weekend, she simply loves it here!  She was in Marsh Oaks yesterday as they were filming a scene there.  Can’t say I blame her, Wilmywood is pretty damn awesome.

If you remember, Heart of the Country shot here last year.  The movie is out on DVD and On Demand today.  The movie was written and directed by Wilmington’s own John Ward.  It stars Jana Kramer and Gerald McRaney.  Our lovely Sydney Penny also joins the cast.  Sydney is also the co-producer.  Marty Siu did the extras casting, plus, a lot of great local crew members were on this flick.  The storyline: “With her husband jailed for Wall Street fraud, Faith leaves her life of luxury behind to return to rural North Carolina and the father and sister she’d left behind. A love between a father and his daughter, it parallels the famous parable, ‘The Prodigal Son’.”  ~IMDB

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 07/09/2013

Good Morning!  Another great episode for Under the Dome.  Actually, I think it was the best one yet!  I will be posting the overnight numbers for Episode 3 after 11am, so hang on.  These numbers are likely to determine if indeed there will be a season two.  Which means, according to my sources, the cast will leave us for only 6-8 weeks before they would return to Wilmington.  John Elvis who plays Ben, the skateboarding life loving friend to Joe will be in the Sunny  studio today.  I will air it tomorrow morning on What’s Up in Wilmywood at 7:30am and 8:30am on Sunny 104.5.

Also the Under the Dome Radio guys and I chat on today’s podcast talking about Under the Dome, Wilmywood and the film community.  They will post that later today.

Today the folks will be in Southport they will be shooting on  Howe St.,  Lord St.,  and E Bay St.   I would finally like to welcome Mare Winningham (Agatha) and Natalie Zea (Maxine) to the cast!  Better late than never!  Maybe you will see them in Southport today.  The cast just keeps getting better!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 06/18/2013

LISTEN TO PODCAST

So I would like to personally thank Angie at CBS up in New York.  Not only is she making this incredible Under the Dome Red Carpet Premiere happen in Wilmington, but she also lined up interviews with the film commission here in Wilmington, in Southport and beyond to do stories with all the news outlets coming out for this event.  The interviews will involve the economic impact of filming in this area.  THIS IS HUGE!  This is exactly what those politicians that are against the film incentives need to hear, and those who live in those counties these representatives live in!  News crews are coming in from all over the region: Greenville, Greensboro, Raleigh, Myrtle Beach, Charlotte and they will be representing the bigger markets with their reporting reaching into Georgia, Florida, Maryland and beyond.

The Under the Dome  Red Carpet event is just two days away, the Worldwide television premiere in just 6!  And the closer we get, the more we uncover about the actors and their characters they play.  Mike Vogel talks about his anti-hero turned hero character “Barbie” in this Huffington Post article which came out yesterday. Here’s an excerpt.

“Barbie is a great guy. I love him. He’s a former Special Forces operator. He’s gotten out of the military and since then, he’s done a bunch of odd jobs, trying to find his spot and where he fits in.

He finds himself basically collecting debts for a bookie and nine times out of 10, it’s a nonviolent ordeal. He’s not a heavy that’s going around thumping on people, breaking kneecaps, [saying,] “Pay up. Pay up.” Normally, everyone’s willing. But he finds himself in some situations where he has to defend himself, which is sort of the catalyst which brings him into this town and he happens to find himself here when this event happens.

So he finds himself stuck in a position of having had to defend himself after a rather nefarious deed and stuck in a small town where word travels fast and everyone knows everyone. There’s a lot of stuff swirling in the first couple episodes, and what I like about the show is, judging by the opening of the show, someone might say, “Oh, Barbie, bad guy — Big Jim [played by Dean Norris], good guy.” But that’s not at all the case. And I enjoy that it takes time for everything to unravel here and that everything that you see is not what you’re getting.”

Barbie’s love interest Julia aka Rachelle LeFevre was on Craig Ferguson last night.  Here’s a link to last night’s interview.  Great interview!  But I have to say one of my favorite parts was when they showed a clip from the pilot, and who was there in the scene with Rachelle LeFevre and Mike Vogel?  Our local boy, Mike Rosander!  Woo Hoo!  Great job Mike!  The Domies will be back on Chestnut St today, then they will head back to the lot.

If any of the past shows speak of  Stephen King’s future, music will play a big role in this Summer series.  If you remember the soundtrack to Maximum Overdrive that was shot here in 1986, it was doused in AC/DC’.  “Who Made Who” is the official soundtrack (minus Roger Miller’s ‘King of the Road’), a film that has since become a cult classic .  He’s quite a fan of  rock and Americana.  I found an article that listed King’s Ultimate playlist from 2009.  So, of course it makes perfect sense that we have, Under the Dome Radio.

And finally, speaking of audio, there is much buzz about this!  Originally the UTD pilot contained sound bytes from President Obama in an Emergency Address to the nation about the situation with Chester’s Mill, but they decided to cut it.  Why? The audio they used came from remarks the President made in a speech about Hurricane Sandy.  According to the statement issued by CBS: “The scene cleared broadcast standards, but both Amblin TV and CBS had concerns about using actual audio in this specific fictional context.”  I agree. It’s a sensitive issue, and just like the did with Mike & Molly during the tornado tragedy, they did the right thing.

Your next Mullet sighting will be on Market Street.  Danny McBride and the crew of Eastbound and Down are shooting at Neuwirth  Auto Center all day today.  Here’s a clip from last week w/ TMZ asking Danny about his corn rows of the past.

This will be the last day for Tammy at the GORGEOUS house on Cabbage Inlet during the big 4th of July Bash.  On set today is Sandra Oh, Susan Sarandon, Melissa McCarthy

PERFECT SUMMER PROMOThe Love Letter shooting at Bicentennial Park again today just off 5th St.  You’ll see Keshia Knight Pulliam, Lil Romeo and Jackee today!  Gary Wheeler is not only directing this flick but is releasing another with his Swirl pals!  The Perfect Summer premieres Saturday, July 13th on the UP Network.  Wanna see a clip?  Look how adorable Sydney Penny is!  But wait a second.  Weren’t they just here filming like a few days ago?  Man, they move fast!  Great job Swirl Films!

According to Box Office MoJo, ‘Iron Man 3‘ passed $1.2 billion this weekend, making it the #5 highest gross movie worldwide!

Planter’s Peanuts is shooting a commercial Thursday at the Wilmington Convention Center.  Mr. Peanut is giving a motivational speech, meanwhile a group is playing flag football outside in the grass.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every weekday morning at 7:30am & 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Or just post your comments below!  Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 05/21/2013 – Melissa McCarthy, EBD, UTD and More

It was the final day of production for The Perfect Summer.  The day ended with Sydney Penny (All My Children) and Louis Mandylor (My Big Fat Greek Wedding). Major kudos to Director Gary Wheeler and Casting Director Kim Stewart.  Here’s a few shots from the last day:

As seen in yesterday’s update, Eastbound and Down: Season 4s new production start date will be around June 11th.    It was originally slated to begin filming around the 28th of this month.  Danny McBride is in town so be on the lookout for Kenny!

Tammy-ExtrasAnother crazy day as the Tammy cast and crew returns to Spring Lake Park in Boiling Springs Lake today.  Another fun day of over 200 extras and the hilarity of Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon.  There was definitely talk in the extras holding pen as the killer tornado in Oklahoma passed through the town of Moore.  People were definitely affected.  It also affected Melissa’s TV show.

CBS decided to pull Monday night’s season finale of Melissa McCarthy’s Mike & Molly because its plot featured a tornado.  The network said in a statement, “Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are pre-empting tonight’s season finale of Mike & Molly, which has a related storyline.”  Instead, the network opted to show a repeat, but added, “The season finale will be broadcast at an appropriate date.”

The episode now on the shelf is titled Windy City. A network plot summary reads: “As [a] tornado descends on Chicago, Mike and Molly each confess important news to each other.”

Under the Dome will be on 15th St. near downtown Wilmington for the remainder of the day.  That’s means you have another opportunity to catch a glimpse of Mike Vogel and Rachelle LeFevre on location today.

Be on the lookout because another megastar rolls into town this week!

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Until then, that’s a wrap!

The Perfect Weekend for The Perfect Summer

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 05/14/2013 – New Reality Show, Perfect Summer, Tammy, Under the Dome, Sleepy Hollow

LISTEN TO PODCAST

Perfect_SummerAnother day in Wrightsville Beach for the cast and crew of The Perfect SummerJason Castro had a great first day as the laid back surf shop owner yesterday.  They will be back at it at the same location today, Aussie Island Surf Shop.  Looks like we will see Jason Castro,  Katie Garfield, JD Banks, Adam Horner and Justin Barnhill shooting.  I am gonna try to stop by the set today and get some scoop for ya!  Thanks to Gary Wheeler for the set pic!

A fun filled day for Tammy as well as they finally get off Nun St. and head to Castle Hayne.  We will be seeing just Melissa McCarthy today with about 8 extras on hand.  There will be a detour as  a 1-mile section of Blue Clay Road will be closed to traffic from Old Mill Road to Holly Road today.

Yesterday I posted the preview for Sleepy Hollow that was shot in the Charlotte area.  If you missed it, check it out now!

Super huge scene for Under the Dome as they are already rolling today at 5th and Castle.  Huge stunts too!  The scene involves a semi-truck crashing into a water tower.  This had the talented set construction folks super busy all week, building the faux water tower.  I was hoping for major explosions today, but I heard they are doing the visual fx in post (but maybe we will get lucky).  But it will still be exciting because not only is it a crazy fun stunt filled day, but it will also be star-studded as well.  Dean Norris, Rachelle LeFevre, Samantha Mathis, Natalie Martinez, Colin Ford – just about all the lead characters will be in this scene as well as a plethora of extras!  Where will be tons of coverage, so they will be shooting until the sun goes down.  This scene will affect traffic patterns as well so find an alternate route!

Doron Ofir Casting (the casting company for Jersey Shore), is casting a new reality show, American Proud – The Party is Down South.  They are searching for the proudest Southerners who are at least 21 years old that are ready to show the world they’re country strong! “If you like your chicken fried, and you’re full of American pride, we are looking for you!”  Local boy Mike Waggett is a recruiter for the company and is asking you to: “Git’er done and apply now!” Email a photo of yourself along with your contact info and tell him why you are “American Proud. ”

Fianlly, CONGRATS to Vanessa and Kim!  NCasting got the gig!  They will be casting Eastbound and Down Season 4.  Look for opportunities to work on the HBO show soon!

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Until then, that’s a wrap!
