THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 01/08/2015 LMGA recognizes NC Crew members!

Tammy might have been nominated for a Razzie, but it took in over $100 million at the worldwide box office. And we got some congratulations to give out to some NC Film peeps! The Location Managers Guild of America is recognizing our locals Mike Hewett and Lori Russell for Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary Film for the comedy. The awards ceremony will take place in Beverly Hills, March 7th! Awesome job Mike and Lori, but then again, we expect nothing less! Woo Hoo!

tAMMY_mIKE_mELISSATammy_Mike_MelissaMike was the location manager and Lori was the key assistant location manager. The LMGA only allows two people to be nominated and not the whole location department / team, but kudos goes out to the entire department!

And speaking of Tammy, last night at the People’s Choice Awards, Melissa McCarthy won for Favorite Comedic Movie Actress! Congrats lady!

Tammy stars Melissa, Ben, Kathy on Wilmington and the NC Film Incentives!

Thanks to Michelle Li, our Wilmington news girl who you see in the trailer for Tammy  got a sweet interview with Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone and Kathy Bates. But even though she moved away, her heart is still here in North Carolina.   Here’s what they say about NC Film Incentives!

Here’s a link to a great article from Wilmington Biz that goes into greater detail. READ NOW!

P.S. GOD I LOVE KATHY BATES!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 06/26/2014 – Incentives Update, Tammy, Under the Dome, Orlando’s Comedy Show and more.

CollegeFund_NCFilmRallyYesterday during the press conference at the NCGA in Raleigh, the Governor was asked to come to set while the short session is underway before decisions are made and see for himself and fully understand what is at stake.  Also, Mayor Saffo along with Bill Vasser, Susi Hamilton, Ted David and Rep. Moore from Mecklenburg County spoke about how important the incentives are and they are asking the legislators to extend the film incentives for another year before making any decisions.   Please continue to call Speaker Tillis and Gov. Pat McCrory‘s office. Tell them your story, let them know what would happen if the film incentives went away. Make it personal. Let them see just how many people if affects and how.

Studios sent out this Sleepy Hollow comic cover and it’s gone totally viral in the Twittersphere!  Talk about a tease coming out of nowhere! BOOM! has already produced comic adaptations for Planet of the Apes, Die Hard and 28 Days Later via licensing agreement with 20th Century Fox, so why not, right? I’d buy it!

In case you didn’t believe me months ago, Nicholas Sparks was here, but not for his movie he is currently shooting, The Longest Ride. Nope, it’s the one they are shooting in September, The Choice. He went scouting with his producing buddies. Sure hope he stopped by The Longest Ride set at least to say, “Yo, what’s up? Thanks for making my book into a movie again Wilmington!”

SONY DSCLet’s please give a huge thank you to our Mayor Billy Saffo who spoke out yesterday regarding the film incentives.  He, like us, would like to keep the film incentives the way they are, and spoke out against the grant program.

“Why kill a good thing,” Saffo said. “We have a thousand people that work in this industry, that work here permanently and to lose a thousand jobs would be a tragedy.”  (Speaking about just in the Wilmington area).  And as far as the grant program, Saffo said, “We have been told by the film industry, we have been told by Disney, we’ve been told by every production company that’s working in the state – it will not work.”  READ STORY NOW

julietteLOur special agent actress Juliette Lewis turns 41 tomorrow, not looking a day older than 31. She will be returning to Wilmington in a couple of weeks as production for ABC’s Secrets & Lies begins in about four weeks.

It’s day 5 of 46 for The Longest Ride.  They will be downtown today on N 4th. Oona and Jack are back on set today.  Looks like they will also be shooting in Jacksonville as well as Hampstead in the coming days.  Awesome, I dig when they spread the film love across the counties.

cropped-utdset062013_0012.jpgHUMP DAAAYYY!  Let’s do this! Under the Dome returns to EUE/Screen Gems wrapping up the premiere episode.  I think they are on more sound stages this season.  That means more cool locations we will never see until the show. Argh! Later this week they will head to some of their favorite spots in Currie and Burgaw.

EP Jack Bender

Jack Bender directed the first episode for season two.  Not only is he a talented director, but a talented artist as well.   The Wilma W. Daniels Gallery (200 Hanover St.) will be showcasing his work beginning this Saturday.  The artwork will be on display from the 15th through the 29th of this month.  Three of his pieces will be from Season One  of Under the Dome.  Think Pink Stars!  We will also get a sneak peek at some of the beautiful pieces for the upcoming season. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 12pm-5pm.  However, a special night is reserved for you to mingle with the artist that is Jack Bender on Saturday, March 22nd from 6pm-9pm.

melissaMelissa McCarthy is on one hell of a subliminal marketing campaign connecting the views of Mike & Molly with her upcoming feature film Tammy, shot of course right here in Wilmywood.  If you remember she had Susan Sarandon on a couple of episodes on her CBS sitcom.  Next up?  Kathy Bates.  How many other cast members will guest star as we lead up to the Tammy release on July 2nd?

And speaking of Tammy, a little FYI, Allison Janney will be on Queen Latifah today!

The latest winter storm charged fiercely upon the South, making Atlanta shut down production for a few days.  However, the NC Film crew didn’t let the latest polar vortex stop them from getting things done Under the Dome, and there certainly is a lot to do.  The construction team is currently the busiest, rebuilding last season’s sets at EUE/Screen Gems Studios and from what I hear building some new ones.

Writer/Showrunner of Under the Dome, Dr. Neal Baer will be honored on Feb. 27 by City Year Denver for his contributions on health, education and other issues involving youth. “I am committed to finding ways to keep kids in school,” he told the Denver Post. Baer will screen his NC shot documentary about new approaches to education, “If You Build It,” during the event.  But that’s not all he said.  You know they had to deliver questions about Season 2 of Under the Dome.

Baer told the Denver Post, “It’s bigger, bolder than last season. In the first five minutes you see the demise of one character; two die in the first episode. No one is safe.”

AhnOReillyOur Sleepy Hollow Heads are beyond busy as they are bringing yet another show to television. Yesterday we reported, that Kurtzman and Orci is bringing a CW pilot entitled, IDENTITY to Charleston, SC.  The show will star Ahna O’Reilly, who is best known for her supporting role as Elizabeth Leefolt in the The Help and of course Fruitvale Station.  Ahnna nabs the lead role as Mia. She has been cast as Detective Andrea Cornell, who is watching  Ben Garner (Ryan Phillippe) like a hawk, after he discovers the body of a 4 year old boy while out on a morning run.  Her character has been describes as being “incredibly professional, hard to read who can come across as intentionally odd with a disconcerting calm who is often if not always the smartest person in the room.(Source:THR).
