Elon Poll iconKeep spreading the word about early voting!  The Elon Poll came out this morning and here’s a few fun facts!

Hagan holds a steady lead over Tillis with Election Day just days away.

Hagan has solidified a 45-41 margin against Rep. Thom Tillis, the speaker of NC House, since the Elon University Poll found the same numbers in early September. Another 6 percent of likely voters plan to support another candidate, while 7 percent remain undecided.

Locally, support for North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory is eroding among likely voters. 37% of likely voters approve of his job performance, down 6 percentage points since last month. 15% didn’t know how they felt about the governor.

SteveUngerOther voting facts:

129,841 in-person early votes in NC Wednesday exceeds 2010 highest one-day total 125,412 (Friday b4 election).

EUE/Screen Gems getting Mini-Facelift this Weekend.

Okay, after a couple of concerned texts and a panicked phone call, I feel I need to share this tidbit.  If you have noticed (pictured above) EUE/Screen Gems will be doing some painting above the wardrobe building, which is where you normally see those big bold letters at the entrance:  EUE/SCREEN GEMS STUDIOS.

They are not selling the place, they are not closing!  For cryin’ out loud!  Please squash the rumors. Now with that being said, due to the little mini-facelift, tours will NOT be rolling this weekend.  Feel better? Good!

EUE/Screen Gems is the heart of Wilmington film and it is here to stay!

Wilmywood: 9th Spookiest cemetery in the USA thanks to Sleepy Hollow

Thanks to our Fox show, Wilmywood is getting more recognition.  Last week, we found out that Wilmington was deemed Best American Riverfront thanks to your vote in USA Today.  Now Fox News has put out the top 10 list of Spookiest Cemeteries in the US.

Wilmington’s Bellevue Cemetery comes in at #9.  Fox News describes the place as a favorite spot for filming, Sleepy Hollow.

“It may be a serene resting place during daylight, but add a little Hollywood fog and moonlight and it becomes a setting worthy of the headless horseman.”

Kudos to Star News photographer Matt Born for his photo being used in the article!

The St. James Parish cemetery in WIlmington also made the list, coming in at #10. It’s one of the oldest in town and was noted for “the grave of a man who was buried alive and lost all of his fingertips trying to scratch his way out.”

Rep. Rick Catlin calls film worker ‘Liar’ and ‘Stupid’

Witnesses report that a heated argument between a film crew member and Rep. Rick Catlin took place this morning outside the government center during day 3 of early voting.

Shaun O’Rourke was holding a sign that read, “No one has killed more jobs in New Hanover County than Rick Catlin. Public Enemy #1.

Catlin came up to the crew member and started debating him on tax. Catlin rattled off that giving a cash rebate is against constitutional law.

Shaun replied with, “You are not going to tell me that all major corporations aren’t incentivized whether it’s on the local level with permits or otherwise. You cannot tell me that.”

Finally after Catlin continued on, Shaun told him, “You really need to get out of my face. You killed my job, you killed 1000s of jobs.” Apparently the politician would not remove himself from the crew member’s personal space.

Witnesses say that Catlin told Shaun to stop spreading lies.  “You’re lying. Everything you are doing is stupid. You’re stupid.”

The argument escalated and Rick’s wife got involved in what was now from what witnesses said a screaming match.

“We are trying to be professional!” Rick’s wife called out.

Shaun replied, “Professional? You just called one of your constituents stupid. This is why nobody wants you. You are going to call someone stupid in front of everybody? That’s why he didn’t get my vote.”

Catlin’s wife responded with, “We didn’t want your vote anyway!”

Catlin’s wife then moved over to the side and said, “Someone needs to talk to the campaign that was in charge of that group.”

Here’s the thing Mrs. Catlin, he’s not affiliated with any campaign. He’s here on behalf of the film workers.

ATTN: FILM CREW, ACTORS, BACKGROUND ACTORS, SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS!

We have been waiting for this chance to prove our power at the polls since the short session ended and Gov. Pat McCrory refused a special session for the NCGA.  We know many of you are working, so Saturday may be you only chance to rock your vote!

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25TH

12pm

bETSYjORDANCandidate for NC House District 20 Betsy Jordan has made an open invitation to all crew members as well as background extras and small business owners that benefit from film to join her at the polls at high noon this Saturday!!  Yep, High Noon! It’s a showdown.  The ammunition?  Our vote.   So, please join her at the Government Complex at 230 Government Center Dr. If you can’t make it at Noon, they are open from 8am-8pm.

PLEASE bring a friend, family member, or another crew member to the polls!  It is vital that we exceed voter turnout expectations!

Now I wanna be very clear about this so there is no misunderstanding WHAT SO EVER!  This is an FYI list for you in regards to which candidates fully support our film industry. That being said, you should NEVER vote for a candidate based on one issue. I can’t tell you where they stand on every issue, but I can tell you where they stand on film.

Now to add my own personal opinion on the film matter, one of the most important races this election cycle is the Kay Hagan / Thom Tillis race for US Senator.KayHaganBannerREDO

Thom Tillis is called “Thom 2Face Tillis” for a reason. He has said one thing and done another so many times, he is a disgrace to our state. ESPECIALLY when it comes to our North Carolina Film industry. Most recently, remember the “Double Cross” in the short session? Remember his back door escape to avoid the film supporters at the Dixie Grill? I personally think we can not let him continue his actions. He sure as hell didn’t represent us in the House, why would we ever let him represent our entire state?
