EUE/Screen Gems Opens Wilmington, NC Studios for Weekend Tours on March 28, 2015

 Wilmington, NC (March 25, 2015) EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington announced today that tours resume at its production complex beginning this Saturday, March 28.

Guests will get an insider’s look at the largest studio complex East of California and experience the rich history of EUE/Screen Gems and the films and television shows produced at the facility over the last three decades. Attendees will walk the 10-stage working lot and go behind the scenes of the CBS series “Under the Dome.” The diner, a centerpiece for the show’s activity is a favorite part of the tour.

NEW THIS YEAR:

• Guests will tour the house used by “Secrets and Lies,” airing now on ABC.
• Posters and memorabilia from previous shows on the lot will be in the Commissary building where guests purchase tickets. This year, guests will be allowed to use to their cameras in this waiting area.

Guests will experience a visual history of the North Carolina film and television industry in the screening theater where many famous producers, directors and actors have reviewed footage of productions shot at the studio.

Tours will be hosted on Saturdays and Sundays at 10 am, 12 noon and 2 pm weather permitting throughout the summer. Guests should check the tour hotline before traveling to get the latest tour updates as tours can be cancelled or delayed at the last minute due to weather or changes in shooting schedules on the lot. Guests should arrive at the studios 15 to 20 minutes ahead of tour time to purchase tickets.

Cost: $12 for adults

$10 for students

$10 for seniors (age 65 and over) and military personnel with an ID

$5 for children, ages 5 to 12; children under 5 are free

EUE/Screen Gems Tour Director Pam Stilwell advises wearing comfortable shoes and bringing rain gear if there’s a chance of showers. “We are indoors and out, and on our feet—all over this production complex—so we want to make sure our guests have a great experience, rain or shine,” she says. The tour lasts an hour.

Last season’s tours attracted more than 1000 guests from throughout the United States and Canada and around the world. “We are quite proud of the attachment fans have for this facility and its production history,” says Stilwell.

EUE/Screen Gems Studios hosted tours of the studios for 15 years and concluded them in the fall of 2011 when the CW series “One Tree Hill” wrapped production. The tours were hosted again last spring and summer.

Paper Towns which shot in Charlotte in November has got itself a trailer.  In theaters July 24th!  Woo Hoo!

NC Shot MAX releases trailer and movie poster!

MAX, the war dog movie which was shot in Charlotte and the surrounding areas last year, has given us the gift of a trailer!  The family adventure film was directed by Boaz Yakin. This story was inspired by true events.  I am VERY pumped about this flick which comes out June 26th! Check out the trailer!

18 episodes for Sleepy Hollow, Under the Dome back in Wilmington, Bolden surpasses 100 days.

Our Fox Show Sleepy Hollow will have an 18 episode third season, however early reports confirmed the supernatural show will be filming this time around in Atlanta. The reason for the move is of course for better incentives. There is about a 5% chance they will stay.  Odds are not in our favor however.  Clifton Campbell has signed on as executive producer and showrunner. Earlier this month, Mark Goffman moved to CBS Television Studios for a two-year overall deal to supervise and develop new projects for the studio. Fox stated that the third season will explore the evolving partnership between Crane and Mills after the pair scored a decisive victory over evil in the Season 2 finale.

Under the Dome will remain in Wilmywood for the rest of the week at the Gypsum Plant.  On that note, this business hasn’t made dry wall in quite a while, so they have been renting warehouse space to CBS.  They have been holding the sets since last season. That’s money spent locally for the location that was otherwise out of business. Just sayin’.

So far they have filmed in New Hanover and Pender Counties, and it looks like they will be giving Brunswick County some love next week. They head to Southport on Tuesday at their very familiar location on East Bay Street – ya know, “Big Jim” Rennie’s house.

Bolden has surpassed it’s 100 day of filming this week!  And they still have at least one more month to go. Some say it could possibly go all the way until the first week of June! They of course continue filming in Rocky Point today.

The Squeeze lands deal with Groupon, releases new trailer; Brit Robertson nabs award

According to a press release, Groupon, the global leader in online local commerce has entered new territory by offering its first-ever digital download movie. And it was shot right here in Wilmywood!  Back in the fall of 2013, Terry Jastrow along with his wife Ann Archer graced us with their presence and brought the golf caper, The Squeeze, to the Port City.  And….they have released the trailer.  It looks like an AWESOME movie.  Check it out!

Congrats to our Wilmywood home girl Britt Robertson.  Well, she might as well be, she films so much here! She will receive the “CinemaCon® 2015 Star of Tomorrow Award.” CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), will be held April 20 – 23, 2015 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Robertson will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, April 23, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. It’s day 2 for Under the Dome!  If you went down Oleander Dr this morning, I’m sure you’ve seen them as they set up base camp at the mall parking lot.  They are shooting nearby.  Yes, I know, thank you Capt. Welcome back Domies!

Yay!  It’s day 1 for Season 3 of Under the Dome!  Wilmywood is pumped!  It’s gonna be so awesome to see all those lighting and grip trucks lining the streets for the next few months!  And for their first day, they head out just off Castle Hayne Rd, then make a company move to the sound stages.

House Bill 171 passes first reading in NC House

HB171 (which is a duplicate of SB 193), both of which were filed March 5th, passed it’s first reading yesterday in the House. This would put $66 million in recurring funds for the 2015-2016 fiscal year and would would become effective July 1, 2015. The funds are reserved for a production on which the production company has qualifying expenses of at least the following:   For a feature-length film would thankfully drop to $1,000,000).  For a video or television series, it would go up from $250,000 to $1,000,000 per episode.  I will keep you posted!

BREAKING: BOTH NC House AND Senate file bills for NC Film!

Sooo, right after Gov Pat McCrory announced his proposed budget which would only allocate $10 million in funding for our North Carolina Film Industry for  each year over the next two fiscal years (effective July 1, 2015), I asked, “What will the NCGA do about it?”

WELLLLLL…

SB 193, sponsored by Michael Lee and Bill Rabon was filed today.  Yep, you heard me right, THE SENATE!  It would put $66 million in “recurring funds for the 2015-2016 fiscal year for use consistent with the purposes of that Fund. This act would become effective July 1, 2015, and applies to grants made  on or after that date.”

Wilmywood’s Orlando Jones joins Jessica Biel, Jason Sudeikis in NOLA shot flick.

Our Wilmywood main man Orlando Jones (Sleepy Hollow) has been cast as Cornelius Thibadeaux, aka “Dumbass,” in The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. He joins Jessica Biel, Jason Sudeikis, Maisie Williams and Mary Steenburgen. Variety describes his character as “affable and loyal, as he takes on the job of helping the introverted architect Henry (Sudeikis) build a raft for a homeless teen named Millie (Williams) to use to sail to a far away island, after Henry’s wife (Biel) is tragically killed in a car accident.”

The production is already under way in New Orleans. Looks like Orlando and Jason will a good conversation starter. They have Wilmywood in common!

Another new cast member goes Under the Dome

Another new cast member goes Under the Dome.  Kylie Bunbury (ABC’s Twisted) could be complicating the Barbie/Julia love fest. She will play Eva, “a beautiful and intelligent woman who comes to Chester’s Mill with her boss, Lucy, in search of the egg. Eva is used to following Lucy’s orders without question, but Eva’s interest in Barbie (Mike Vogel) may complicate matters for all of them, as well as Julia (Rachelle LeFevre).”
