by Sheila Brothers and April Vickery

Happy Monday my loves!  Hope everyone had a great weekend, regardless of the surprisingly crappy weather we had on Sunday.  Yuck!

robert-downey-jr-KCA2014The bright and colorful and of course slimy Kids Choice Awards were held over the weekend, and we had a Wilmywood contender. Though the Stark man couldn’t beat a girl with a bow for Favorite Movie or funny man Adam Sandler for Favorite Movie Actor, our Iron Man, Robert Downey, Jr. did nab the win for Best Male Buttkicker.

RDJ wasn’t the only Wilmywood star to head to the KCAs.  RED ZONE star Stefanie Scott also made a stunning appearance.

The KCA’s weren’t the only ones handing out awards. The LMGA Awards were held over the weekend as well.  Congratulations to Ilt Jones for winning the: Outstanding Achievement by a Location Professional – Feature Film for IRON MAN 3. IM3 had a more than a few shots done here in scenic Wilmywood, most memorably, the people of Wilmywood recall the stunt that required a crane and team of stunt professionals dangling out over the Cape Fear River to make the “escape from the airplane scene” happen.  Many of our local talent and beloved EUE/Screen Gems crew worked on this feature and have nothing but the best to say about all the creative crew involved.

Location Managers and Scouts are extremely important members of the creative crew in film, television, commercials, music videos and print advertising. Theses team members find the settings that best represent the Producer, Director and Production Designer.

The locations managers are also responsible for the everyday management of the locations and often work long hours. These folks are the heart and soul of all the “little things” that can really add up very easily to A LOT of things. Permits, legalities, working with transportation and local law enforcement. These guys do it all!

SarahSlate2With all that being said, Sarah Jones was remembered during the ceremony.

Harry Bring took a moment before the awards were handed out to pay tribute to Sarah.   READ STORY NOW

Charlotte, NC’s War Dog Movie MAX Casts Lead Role

JoshWigginsBreakout star Josh Wiggins has just landed the lead role in MAX, the war dog movie which begins shooting in Charlotte in May. If you remember we chatted about this flick a couple of months back, the family adventure film is being directed by Boaz Yakin. The original pic is inspired by true events.  Wilmywood connection?  Josh starred in the Sundance family drama Hellion opposite Juliette Lewis who was just here for ABC’s Secrets & Lies.

ABOUT MAX:

A Belgian Shepard Malinois military working dog returns from active service in Afghanistan traumatized by his handler’s death. Erratic and dangerous, Max is adopted by the bereaved family and bonds with the marine’s troubled 14-year old brother (Josh Wiggins). Together they unravel the secret behind his brother’s death and pull a family together again.

STATUS: Pre-Production.  Production begins May 5th and will wrap around June 20th.  Release date is set for 2015.
Producing is Karen Rosenfelt (Percy Jackson / Twilight).
Writer/Director/EP is Boaz Yakin.

This  is Yakin’s first family film since Remember The Titans. He most recently wrote Now You See Me, which our Sleepy Hollow buddies Kurtzman and Orci produced.

ABOUT THE LONGEST RIDE:

Ira Levinson is in trouble. Ninety-one years old and stranded and injured after a car crash, he struggles to retain consciousness until a blurry image materializes beside him: his beloved wife Ruth, who passed away nine years ago. Urging him to hang on, she forces him to remain alert by recounting the stories of their lifetime together – how they met, the precious paintings they collected together, the dark days of WWII and its effect on them and their families. Ira knows that Ruth can’t possibly be in the car with him, but he clings to her words and his memories, reliving the sorrows and everyday joys that defined their marriage.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 03/26/2014 EW, Sleepy Hollow, Under the Dome, Red Zone

Good Morning Wilmywood! Hope your hump day is as happy as a hippo in heat! Wait…
EW_Community
First off, I have some personal news to share with you. Beginning the week of April 6th, I will be adding another facet to The Wilmywood Daily.  ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY has gathered up a handful of bloggers and has made a “Community” out of us.  I have to say, they are quite talented and some are downright hilarious.  So, kudos to you EW for the selections.  But here’s the cool kicker.  While the other bloggers are doing awesome show recaps (seriously give them a read), I get to do what I LOVE most. Talk about and promote NC Film. I am very excited about being able to shine an even brighter light on the productions that are shooting here. So yay!  Now let’s do just that!

Sleepy-Hollow-TitleThe small town of SLEEPY HOLLOW is getting bigger!  They have already been using 3 sound stages and the entire back lot.  And now they are adding a 4th sound stage to the massive production.  In addition to that space, it looks like we’ll be seeing more of Wilmington aka Sleepy Hollow as they have been scouting new locations for season 2.  Hunter from the Star News says production begins May 6th.

tscc3

RED ZONE is getting a nice mid-morning start which is a very good thing cuz it’s just way too cold to be working outside this morning! They will be shooting on Colonial Drive today.

UNDER THE DOME is at Screen Gems today, but they will venture back out tomorrow.  Dwight Yoakam joins our Domies on set today!

RumorslogoAnd now it’s time for [INSERT ECHO] Rumooooors from the Lot…

1) The buzz is back for BOLDEN! People are talkin’ saying the most expensive independent film ever made is not out of the picture.  Things might move forward after all.  The question is when? Still workin’ on this one.  I will keep you posted!

2) We might be getting back to back TV movies.  After THE SIN SEER wraps Overflow Entertainment might shooting a second flick here in Wilmywood.

3) There is more talk about SECRETS & LIES moving to Charlotte. Although I have heard from others that due to prominent locations, they would stay here, I have also heard that Charlotte would be better suited for the TV production.  We will find out soon enough which rumor is correct.

Wilmywood Birthdays This Week

by April Vickery

LaraWilmywood is celebrating four “Hard to Miss” stars this week! First off, Happy 44th to the timelessly beautiful Lara Flynn Boyle who is connected to Wilmywood by the film ‘THE ROAD TO WELLVILLE‘ directed by Alan Parker. Lara played the character, “Ida Muntz” in this 1994 comedy. WELLVILLE took the cast and crew to scenic Orton Plantation in Winnabow and they filmed several scenes here in Wilmington.
Lara has been in over 40 roles on TV and the big screen including the 1992 film WAYNE’S WORLD and her striking beauty paired well with her comedic timing to make her the ultimate weapon in one of my personal favorites, MEN IN BLACK II.  The Emmy and SAG award nominated actress is rumored to have just finished ‘LUCKY DOG’ directed by Michael Feifer. The film is in currently in it’s post-production process. She celebrates on the 24th!
Jason-Castro-(singer)-wallpaperOn the 25th, THE PERFECT SUMMER‘s dreadlock having heartthrob, Jason Castro turns 27! This American Idol came to Wilmywood to heat up the beaches as “Cody” in the Swirl Productions Film directed by Gary Wheeler in 2013! This Texas native is best known for his musical talents, but he showed all of us here in Wilmywood what he could do without his guitar.  THE PERFECT SUMMER took place ALL OVER Wilmywood and so many of our talented actors here got to spend days working with the crew. Working all day on the beach? Not a bad gig! Wrightsville Beach welcomed the light eyed crooner with open arms and wishes him a happy birthday!
babyI’m positive that on Wednesday the 26th nobody will put Baby in the corner for her 54th birthday! Jennifer Grey is best know as “Baby Houseman” in the 1987 film ‘DIRTY DANCING‘. Baby and camp dance instructor, Johnny Castle (played by Patrick Swayze) fell into forbidden summer love *swoon* set to music. This Emile Ardolino film wasn’t shot in Wilmywood, however it is North Carolina proud.  They shot this dance-a-riffic flick throughout Asheville, Lake Lure and Lure Woods here in NC. Jennifer was also in the 1986 film FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF with another one of our celeb birthday celebrators, Lara Flynn Boyle. Lara’s scenes ended up being cut from the film, but the work earned her a SAG card and Jennifer went on to be remembered as the big sister nobody wanted to mess with. Happy Birthday Jennifer!
vinceLast and certainly not least is the one and only Vince Vaughn who celebrates on the 28th! He is mostly known as the “funny guy” on screen but brought his character of “Rick Barnes” in 2001’s DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE to life with a fierceness that I am sure none of us expected. Luckily for us in Wilmywood it was all pretend and this intimidatingly tall actor (he’s 6’5″) was a big teddy bear who was often seen enjoying the many restaurants and pubs that downtown Wilmington has to offer with his co-stars John Travolta and Steve Buscemi.  Well, there was this one time…Nah, not going there!  Vince is currently filming TERM LIFE which is directed by Peter Billingsley in Atlanta, GA. Vince will be 44. Happy Birthday from Wilmywood!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 03/24/2014 Max Steel, Under the Dome, Red Zone

Hey Hey and Happy Monday Wilmywood!  Hope you had a great weekend!  I was great to see so many of you at Jack Bender‘s Art Show. SEE PHOTOS NOW

So last week, I hinted at some really cool construction going on for MAX STEEL.  Well, my sources are telling me Ideal Cement is gonna be the Max Steel Headquarters.  It feels like TMNT all over again! And it looks like director Stewart Hendler is confirming the location.

https://twitter.com/stewarthendler/status/447023927106093056

I chatted via twitter with Ana Villafane over the weekend and she is pumped about playing Sydney.  Ben Winchell, who will be playing Max McGrath is gonna have one hell of a wardrobe, one piece in particular.

MAXSTEEL_CASTWriter Christopher Yost was doin’ a little bragging last week, saying “Know what else is ridiculously awesome? The suit for the Max Steel movie.”  Okay, seriously, I am starting to geek out about this flick.  Ahhhh! Let’s go into production already!

Under the Dome is headed to Southport today for a little church scene.   A lot of cast member on set today including Dean Norris, Mike Vogel, Rachelle LeFevre, and Eddie Cahill to name a few.

AshleyMarchingBandAnd now we always walk about Film=Jobs, but more importantly we need to discuss what film does for a community.  There are a ton of stories that you never hear, so I am gonna make sure to bring them all to light!

Jenny called The Sunny Morning Show on Sunny 104.5, and she told her story of how a television production (RED ZONE) has helped the Ashley High School Marching Band. READ STORY NOW

RED ZONE is back at Ashley High School today.  I am so glad for the sake of the cast and crew today is not an overnight shoot!  Good Gravy!
