THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 02/28/2014 Secrets & Lies Rolling, Under The Dome, Sarah Jones Online Memorial, and more.

secretsLiesYay!  The first production day of the season!  ABC’s Secrets & Lies kicks it off in Porter’s Neck.  Wanna know some more secrets?  How about how Producer Aaron Kaplan feels about Wilmington and why he chose to bring it here.  Hunter Ingram of the Star News snagged this fabulous quote:

aaronkaplan“When we were trying to decide where to shoot this, one of the most important things for us was that we had to pick an American city that felt very safe, very bucolic and a place that would be rattled by something like the murder of a child,” Kaplan said.

Aaron says more and he wasn’t the only one that agreed.  Find out who cited our excellent film incentives and crew base to seal the deal. READ MORE NOW

charlesduttonThis came out yesterday afternoon!  Australian actress Indiana Evans, has signed on the dotted line as well as three other actors for Secrets & Lies.  Deadline reports that Evans will play Natalie, Ben and Christy’s teenage daughter.  But I am most excited about Charles Dutton!  He will play one of the neighbors, Kevin Williams.  Also added to the list are Steven Brand (Magic City) as Dr. Joseph Turner, another neighbor, and Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead).  READ MORE NOW.

UTD_SlateForSarahAs we gear up for Under the Dome to begin production on Monday in Burgaw, they stopped what they were doing to add to the 100s of slates from around the world paying their respects to Sarah Jones.  Thank you John and the gang!  You rock! Visit SLATES FOR SARAH.  ABC’s Secrets & Lies also have a slate for Sarah as Well.

roadblockOn a traffic note, there will be some road closures as Under the Dome moves forward with Season Two.   Hwy 53 in Burgaw will be closed to traffic between the intersection of HWY 53 and HWY 421 and Malpass Corner Rd.  Times are not set as of yet.

I got an email this morning about an online memorial for Sarah.  “Join our online memorial tomorrow at 11am PST/2pm EST to help us honor Sarah’s life and show the Academy that this courageous young woman deserves a place in the ceremonies.”

Here’s how you can participate:

ABOUT MAX STEELE: 16 year old Max McGrath is discovering that he’s got a strange electric energy that emanates from him when he’s upset or excited, and it’s starting to grow beyond his control. With his scientist father dead and his mom Molly unwilling to talk about what really happened in the accident that killed him, Max is resigned to trying to fit in to yet another new school–where he finds himself attracted to the quirky, independent-minded Sydney and develops a friendship with an old colleague of his dad’s, Miles Edwards. But the most startling thing that happens to Max is the arrival of a small, crab-like alien named Steel, whose memory may be faulty but who knows one thing for certain: he’s there to protect Max, and he’s been sent by Max’s father.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 02/27/2014 Two Features Coming to NC, A Focus on Local Hires, Conjuring Sequel, Sarah Jones’ Family

ncfilmNorth Carolina has two more feature films coming to shoot this spring and summer. And each are both filming in more than one state.

Overflow Entertainment is taking The Sin Seer to two states.  North Carolina and Louisiana. The story involves Rose Ricard who has been given a very special gift by God — the ability to see the sin a person carries in their soul. While she uses her gift to, hopefully, rights the wrongs in society, she also knows the gift comes with a price tag.

Is it just me or does John Noble needs to be a consultant on this flick? (Sleepy Hollow reference). Producing is Angela White.  Paul Hannah is the writer/director.   Production is currently scheduled to begin May 5.

Pathways Productions is bringing us The Show.   Looks like they will also be splitting the love between NC and Atlanta, GA.  As it stands, they plan to shoot this summer.  The Show is about Percy King, a very talented musician who aspires to be a great band director, but of course a girl gets in the mix, and in the way messing with his emotions and leaves him questioning his morals.  The production company deems it a story about “man’s constant strive for perfection and his constant inability to achieve it and sheds light on a community of often misunderstood strangers that act as a family, even in the darkest of times, and shows you why no matter what, the show, much like life must always go on.” Justin Jacobs is writing.  JR Butler will direct.

No word yet if they will be filming in Wilmington or in other parts of North Carolina.  I will keep you posted.

Red27Stunt Coordinator Peter King and the Red 27 crew had their hands full Monday as over 50 stunt performers filled Stage 3 at EUE/Screen Gems Studios, for Under The Dome Season Two stunt auditions.  Now, normally you don’t see too many open auditions when it comes to stunts, around these parts anyway, but there was a damn good reason. 1) Meet new talent.  2) Local hires.  As we gear up for multiple shows filming simultaneously, Peter wanted to reach out to the Wilmington area and really see who is out there.  Monday’s 2-hour action packed audition gave Peter and his team a chance to meet performers face to face and get a taste of what they’ve got.  It’s really important to Peter to hire local first, then if there is a need that cannot be filled to look regionally.  And after reviewing the tapes yesterday, they think they found some great new folks to add to their list of local talent.  On a personal note: THANK YOU for hiring local!

ConjuringNew Line has set a release date for the sequel for The Conjuring. It will be a pre-Halloween release on Oct. 23, 2015.  Looks like Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will return.  Variety reported that the yet-to-be titled sequel does not have a director yet.  Location is still unknown at this time. SarahsFamily

From Sarah’s Family: Thank You.

“This was Sarah’s personal slate. As you can see by the date she wrote on the bottom left corner, it was with her on that unfortunate day. Our thanks go out not only to the Slates for Sarah community, but also to every hard worker that ever contributed to the industry. She considered you family. We smile because Sarah smiled. We laugh because Sarah laughed. And we cry because we miss her so much. Be kind. Be safe. But, above all, be happy! Never forget Sarah Jones!”

In the meantime, if you haven’t seen the petition floating around, to add Sarah Elizabeth Jones to the Academy Awards Memoriam Tribute, please sign it, they only need a few hundred more to meet their 37,000 signatures. SIGN PETITION NOW

Just before the funeral for Sarah Jones yesterday, Variety reported that Midnight Rider has suspended production in Georgia.  The crew has been released for now, but they were told that they will be recalled at some future date.

This was a beautiful tribute.  Please share it with everyone!
A lot of people are also asking how Joyce Gilliard is doing.  She is the fabulous hair stylist that has worked here in Wilmington often (Sleepy Hollow, The Conjuring).  She was up for tweeting this morning.  She let everyone know how sad she is and just how devasting it was to go through it all.  She also cleared up a few things.
“I was hit by the train and not the debris. The worst day in my life. I will need counseling. My coworker died beside me.”
She said that she has metal and pins holding her arm together.  Lots of love and prayers to Joyce.  She is being released from the hospital today.

Today is the first day of Principal photography for “Times Like Dying.” Jim Cody Williams is in from LA who if you look up on IMDb has worked a ton. He was in “Pirates of the Caribbean 2,” “Dodgeball,” and “Sons of Anarchy among many many more films and TV roles. He was also in the original Pace Picante commercial, where he said the famous line, “New York City?” Time to go play cowboys, boys! Gitty Up!
