NC Film Grant: A possible, permanent budget line item?

So, the Senate has a proposed budget, and it includes the NC Film Grant.  Leaders are pushing for the grant to become a recurring line item. It would give $15 million per fiscal year. The grant amount for this fiscal year could be increased to about $30 million by using unused funds from this year’s grant program. But the following year it would be $15 million flat.

Sunsets have always been the down side to NC film incentives, so having a recurring line item definitely helps. It’s just not nearly enough. We’ll see how this goes and if it gets increased and if it gets passed.

N.C. Senators. Michael Lee, R-New Hanover, and Bill Rabon, R-Brunswick said in a statement:

“We look forward to working with Representatives (Ted) Davis and (Holly) Grange to increase funding for the film grant program and make the program’s entire appropriation permanent in the final budget.”
