CHARLESTON, SC: Danny McBride Series now accepting crew resumes

Getty Images

The new HBO series, Vice Principals, is currently accepting crew resumes. This production will be based in the Charleston region and begin principal photography at the end of March.

Please send your resume to: viceprincipalsresumes@gmail.com. Be sure put your position and department in the subject line.

FYI: Line producer is Stephanie Laing.  Directing is of course Jody Hill.

But guess who else would have made it back to Wilmywood if the incentive would have stayed in place? (FYI: This series was supposed to be shot here, hence the post).

Our Dawson’s Creek girl, Busy Phillips.  Yep she is starring in this series along with Danny McBride, Da’vine Joy Randolph, Sheaun McKinney, and Georgia King.

Is there an emoticon for my current mood as I write this blog?

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 11/06/2014 TBS Pilot for NC, HBO in Concord, and crew jobs in other states.

Boy oh Boy, Hollywood is trying to get in as many projects as they can before our film incentives expire before the end of the year! Thank God! I am happy that so many crew members will be able to pay their mortgages and have a great holiday!

The Untitled Jones-Bee Vacation Project for TBS will be under way next month and they are definitely set for North Carolina. Rumor has it, Wilmywood has got the project!

TBS gave the pilot the green light last month. This scripted comedy pilot from The Daily Show‘s Jason Jones & Samantha Bee is a family road trip comedy about the journey to Key West. They are projected to begin production December 8th.  Samantha Jones is set to star in the project which is based on Jones and Bees’ personal accounts over the years on vacation. I will keep you posted as soon as I know more.

Also, there are rumors about HBO Doc currently shooting a pilot in Concord, NC.  Possibly some reenactment scenes. Don’t have too many details on this one. I’ll get back to you.

Now looking into the NC filmmaker’s future. Let’s take a look at 2015.  Where do we stand?  How many positions can be filled?

Sleepy Hollow will be wrapping by the end of January.

Under the Dome will begin prepping for season 3 in late Jan/Early Feb.

Bolden will shoot into the new year with them possibly going as late as March/April 2015.

That’s all we got right now. Less than 1000 jobs for 4200+ film workers. So until we get North Carolina back in business )and we will), let’s expand into other states and see what is close by and worth looking into.

Mornin’ Sunshine! Happy Humpday.  Not too much going on today, but we do have a few things noteworthy.

The Emmys kicked everyone in the tail. Under the Dome did decent enough, but showed lower numbers with a 1.4 A18-49, 6.59M viewers.

ABC’s Secrets & Lies is in Porter’s Neck today and Sleepy Hollow is at the sound stages today.

DIckCheneyHBO has been scouting North Carolina, among other states for their mini series Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency (adaptation  of the book by Washington Post investigative reporter Barton Gellman published in 2008).  Some sources say they have made their decision and are shooting in New York and North Carolina, however, other sources say they have not locked in NC as a location. At least not yet anyway. Wherever they shoot, they will need to make a decision soon as production is supposed to start in October. The Line Producer is Louise Rosner. David Frankel is directing. THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/20/2013 Another Movie for NC, Eric Laden, Encore’s Best Of and More!

gold45revolverWriter/Producer Elliot McGucken is taking his award winning screenplay, “The Legend of McCoy Mountain & The Gold 45 Revolver” to the silver screen, and my sources tell me as it stands, they will be shooting this flick in LA, New York and North Carolina.  I am still waiting to hear back on exactly where in NC they will be filming.  Let’s hope their plans don’t change! The movie is about Mary McCoy and her boyfriend who head on up McCoy Mountain to film the ghost of Civil War abolitionist Johnny Ranger McCoy for Mary’s Sundance documentary.  They end up finding out firsthand if Johnny’s Gold 45 Revolver really does fire lightning in the hands of heroes willing to give that last, full-measure of devotion.  Look for this production to start up in the Spring.

Remember the indie flick Riverguard that shot here this past summer?  Eric Ladin, the lead in the Wilmywood shot movie has been cast as a regular in The Brink, HBO’s pilot directed by Jay Roach from a script by Roberto Benabib and Kim Benabib and exec produced by Jerry Weintraub. The Brink is an epic dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander (Tim Robbins); Alex Coppins (Jack Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Callahan (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot. Ladin will play Lieutenant Glenn Taylor, Callahan’s ace wingman.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/18/2013 – Variety Helps Spread the Message, Hank and Jed, PCAs and more…

Howdy and Happy Hump Day! Yesterday was a fun-filled crazy day for film blogging. Not, one, not two, but three were posted as so much was going on.  I will recap and add some goodies this morning!

Yesterday on the Wilmywood Daily Facebook page, I deemed these folks as the Best NC Film Family ever! Hilarious! This Raleigh, NC Family has got more than 6 million views since last week! If you haven’t seen this video yet, you will LOVE it!

ncFLAGThe Governor’s office sent out a press release yesterday.  Film and Television Production spent at least $254 Million in North Carolina this year. That’s direct in state spending folks!  It’s been one the most successful years in NC Film history. The release stated that production companies generated more than 4,000 “well-paying” crew positions and nearly 25,000 job opportunities, including talent and background extra positions. There were more than 5,700 production days in more than 30 counties this year. READ PRESS RELEASE NOW

keepncA lot of people read this press release and liked what was included, but many were more intrigued about what was not included:  the reason for such high direct in state spending. The 25% film incentive.  An interesting omission, indeed.  Perhaps they thought is was a given?   The economic impact numbers help make our case that the incentives should not end on Jan. 1, 2015.  Regardless, we will continue the push until the big vote in May.

Ted-Johnson-VarietyI wanted to thank Ted Johnson, the senior editor for Variety for bringing this message to Hollywood.  Did you know that some people in LA think that our incentives don’t even exist anymore?  Crazy.  Production Companies and studios need to know that North Carolina is still very much a viable option.  So, thanks Ted, I think this article will be a big help.  READ HIS ARTICLE NOW

Variety also brings us this wonderful news about our NC shot  Homeland. The  season finale pulled in its largest audience to date.  READ ARTICLE NOW!

Television Series Fuel Strong Year for Film Industry in North Carolina

5,700 production days, $254 million in spending and 25,000 job opportunities in 2013

DECEMBER 17, 2013 • JOBS AND THE ECONOMY

PRESS RELEASE:  Raleigh, N.C. — Popular television productions fueled one of the strongest years experienced by the film industry in North Carolina.

More than 60 productions registered with the N.C. Film Office and filmed in North Carolina in 2013. Those productions amassed a record-high of more than 5,700 production days with filming taking place in more than 30 of the state’s 100 counties.

“In addition to our state’s beauty, we’ve developed the workforce and artists that make North Carolina an ideal place to produce quality projects efficiently,” said Governor McCrory.

Year-end projections show television and film productions had a direct in-state spend in excess of $254 million and created more than 4,000 well-paying crew positions for the state’s highly skilled workforce. These productions created nearly 25,000 job opportunities (full time equivalent and temporary jobs), including talent and background extra positions, for North Carolinians. These numbers are the second highest in the industry’s history for in-state spending by productions as well as total job opportunities created.

Television series headlined production in North Carolina in 2013. Five major series—the summer’s top show “Under The Dome,” this fall’s breakout series “Sleepy Hollow,” the second season of Cinemax’s top series “Banshee,” the third season of the award winning Showtime series “Homeland” and the final season of HBO’s “Eastbound and Down”—all filmed in the state.

Production on the feature films “Tammy,” “Careful What You Wish For,” “The Ultimate Life,” “The World Made Straight,” “Grass Stains,” “The Squeeze,” “Captive” and “Tusk” also took place in North Carolina. Made-for-television movies also had a strong presence as “Christmas In Conway,” Norman Rockwell’s “Shuffleton Barbershop” and “The Perfect Summer” all were filmed and aired in 2013. National commercials for Mountain Dew, ESPN, NASCAR, Planters, Audi and Fiat also shot in the state.

“The film industry continues to have a major impact on the state’s economy and provide job opportunities for thousands of North Carolinians,” said Secretary of Commerce Sharon Decker. “It is great to see our state continue its success in the industry.”

Beyond the more than $254 million in direct spending, additional spending and job creation has taken place on numerous lower budget projects and commercials.

“The past three years have produced unheralded numbers in direct in-state spending and job opportunities,” said NC Film Office Director Aaron Syrett.

Established in 1980, the North Carolina Film Office is part of the N.C. Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development in the N.C. Department of Commerce. Its primary responsibilities are to recruit productions to the state by marketing the many assets—including the resources, crew base, established infrastructure and locations statewide—North Carolina has to offer. In addition, the film office assists productions with permitting and other logistics and works hand-in-hand with regional film commissions in the Wilmington, Research Triangle, Piedmont Triad, Charlotte and Western regions of the state. Since its creation, 400+ projects have filmed in the state, directly spending over $1 billion and creating more than 100,000 job opportunities for crew, talent and extras.

timguineeTim Guinee (Charlie’s father from Season One of NBC’s Revolution) is back in North Carolina, but this time is is for our other NC hit show, Homeland. While he was in Charlotte, he had to sound off and be his usual grateful self complimenting the writers, the cast and the NC Film crew.  I had a quick exchange with Tim this morning and he said:

“Being a graduate of UNCSA in Winston-Salem, it’s always great to come back to work in North Carolina. So glad there’s so much work here.”  He went on in support of our NC Film Incentives, “I hope the state is smart enough to keep the tax incentives which are above all such a great thing for the NC economy. It would be sad to see all those jobs pack up and move to another state as it so often happens.”

Tim, we love your support and we definitely glad you are back in NC for a few days!  Love to you my friend!

Our Under the Dome creator Stephen King join the ladies on The View today 11am EST He’s there of course to talk about his new book, but I am sure they touch upon the success of our show.
