Update on North Carolina Film Incentive Program
RELEASE FROM THE NC FILM OFFICE:
In 2015, North Carolina will implement its new Film and Entertainment Grant program.
Capped at $10 million, productions will be eligible to receive back up to 25% on their qualified in-state spending with a maximum award of $5 million available to feature films and television series and $250,000 for commercials. A minimum spend of $5 million for feature films, $250,000/episode for television series, and $250,000 for commercials is required.
A working draft of the guidelines for the new grant is now available for review. As indicated, this is a working document and is subject to change. The official guidelines will be posted January 1 with a public comment period taking place prior to the guidelines being finalized and the application being available. Please continue to check www.filmnc.com for the latest updates and information.
As a reminder, our current 25% refundable tax credit incentive is still available for all projects with a minimum spend of $250,000 for work and spending that takes place on or before December 31, 2014.

Wilmywood shot Secrets and Lies to kick off with 2 hour debut March 1, 2015
The Hollywood Reporter, well, reports that ABC is putting the puzzle pieces together and are lining up the shows.
“The 10-episode drama Secrets and Lies, starring Ryan Phillippe and Juliette Lewis, will debut on Sunday, March 1 with a two-hour debut from 9-11 p.m. before moving into its regular 9 p.m. slot the following week. It replaces sophomore drama Resurrection, which has had a limited season two order.”

Sleepy Hollow Ratings: Our Fox show adjusted up 1/10th with a 1.6 A18-49 with 4.68M viewers on Monday night!
Sleepy Hollow is running two units today. One on the soundstages and one at the Econolodge today on Market St.
Bolden is back in Rocky Point at their stages.
The Choice is back at the hospital in Whiteville.
Blue Mountain State is shooting in Currie.

FILM INCENTIVES NEWS: Teamsters Local 391 posted: The General Assembly begins on January 14th and the Teamsters Local 391 legislative agenda is being finalized over the next month which includes pay increases for our public school employees, reviving the film incentive program, legislation to protect law enforcement and much more. Ironically, the session begins on my birthday. It better be a damn good present!
Here’s a Kickstarter for a fun North Carolina indie flick. Some Wilmington Crew Members also worked on the trailer. It’s called The Aquarium.
Jeff got hexed and is stuck in reverse. Luke writes letters to his hero. Alyson searches for the netherworld while an old iMac…
The film revolves around several stories that are bound together through magical realism. Characters include a superfan and a fantasy/sci-fi writer developing a peculiar relationship through a series of letters; two friends searching for an otherworldly telephone; another friend who’s hexed and becomes stuck in reverse; an old iMac that comes to life and begins investigating the modern world; and a whole lot more.
The Aquarium will be shot with an entirely volunteer cast and crew from the Asheville, NC area. There’s a sincere energy between so many talented people living in Asheville right now, and I believe it would be something special to capture this moment in time and place. The film will be much more than several wild stories that I’ve written down come to life—it will be the combined efforts of many exceptional human beings I’ve come to know and love, who also happen to be exceptional musicians, actors, giants, creators, writers, dancers, falcons, prop masters, visual artists, designers, and gunslingers. Unable to tell his wife and kids he’s been fired just as they are about to leave on vacation, Nate cashes in his airline tickets in favor of a road trip, but their cross-country journey to Key West soon turns into a series of comical disasters.
TBS’ Vacationland names its extras casting director.
Vacationland has named it’s Extras Casting Director. The TBS pilot chose Ashli Bogart of AB Casting. The project begins production 
December 10th here in Wilmywood and will be shooting for about 8 days. The pilot was written by The Daily Show‘s Jason Jones and Samantha Bee. They will also be starring in the show as well. Steve Pink will direct. Make sure to check AB Casting on Facebook for all background casting opportunities. Plus, give Ashli some love while you are at it!
TBS gave the pilot the green light last month. This scripted comedy pilot is a family road trip comedy about the journey to Key West and is based on Jones and Bees’ personal accounts over the years on vacation.

Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland kicks off production today in Currie. And will actually spend a lot of time there. Good vibes going out to the cast and crew today!
Bolden is back on the stages in Rock Point. They swing into Wilmington tomorrow.
Even though The Choice has a few more days of shooting, the production had their wrap party yesterday afternoon at the local favorite Satellite Bar and Lounge. In attendance was Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer, Jesse Boyd, Tom Wilkinson to name a few.
Director Ross Katz got up and wished North Carolina well on our troubles we are facing with our fading film incentives saying, “I hope you guys have lots and lots of more movies down here in spite of the tax incentives situation, but I am sure I will see you on other films, I hope. I also wanna thank those folks who have given us their homes to shoot in. Thank you. The movie was beautiful thanks to your generosity.” He went on to give major kudos of course to the cast and the office staff who never gets enough love.” Great speech Ross!
The Choice is shooting in Whiteville today. Jesse Boyd should be happy about that. It’s his hometown! And yes, FINALLY, Tom Welling is back on set today!
Sleepy Hollow is filming on Stage 6 at Screen Gems today. And of course it’s another Sleepy night tonight!

Get ready for a great weekend, but bundle up! It’s gonna be a COLD one! Brrrr! Okay, let’s see what we got today:
EUE/Screen Gems Studios still has more work to due maintenance-wise, so they will be taking a break from tours during the winter months when there are fewer visitors to the lot. Tours will resume in early Spring, 2015. Now, let’s recap and review!
The 20th annual Cucalorus Film Festival kicked off this Wednesday. Over 241 films from around the world will be playing through Sunday. Visit cucalorus.org for a complete schedule.
The ABC production Secrets and Lies wrapped this week. Look forward to seeing Ryan Phillippe, Juliette Lewis and Natalie Martinez star in this series premiering in March.
The Choice is back on private property today. I would just like to add that some of the stars on the show are so adorable. I am talking about the canine stars of course! Can’t wait to see it on the big screen already! They head to Whiteville next week.
Not too much to report on Sleepy Hollow except everybody’s awesome! There! Reported!
Meanwhile, two more feature films are starting up. The feature film Bolden which has already starting filming in Atlanta has made its way back to Wilmywood. They officially began production this week in Rocky Point. They head to Wilmington next week.
The comedy Blue Mountain State starring Alan Ritchson and Denise Richards begins production this Monday.
Not far behind is the TBS pilot, Vacationland from the Daily Show’s Jason Jones and Samantha Bee. They begin production the week of December 8th. They have also named their director. You might not know his name, but you have seen his work. Steve Pink has directed Hot Tub Time Machine as well as the sequel that is due to come out soon. Other works include the remake of About Last Night.
The Melissa McCarthy comedy Tammy, which was shot here in the summer of 2013 came out on Blu-Ray and DVD this week. You can also check it out on VOD, iTunes and at all other mainstream outlets!
ICYMI: The first annual One Tree Hill convention has been announced and of course it will right here in Wilmywood. The dates have been set for March 27-29, 2015. THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 11/12/2014 Cucalorus, Orlando Jones’ “Tainted Love” Premiere and Film Festival and more.
The 20th annual Cucalorus Film Festival kicks off tonight with Dancalorus it runs through Sunday. Visit cucalorus.org for a complete schedule.
Cucalorus honors Dino De Laurentiis‘s legacy as this year’s retrospective artist. According to the Cucalorus web site, the program will feature his most famous films — like Flash Gordon and Hannibal — along with one of his earliest Wilmington productions — Crimes of the Heart. Immediately following the screening of Crimes of the Heart special guests, including Dino’s wife and long-time producing partner Martha De Laurentiis, will take the stage at Thalian Hall for an extended discussion to examine Dino’s legacy and the early days of the studios in Wilmington.
Other Wilmywood local flicks of note include:
Jon Landau’s Pushing Buttons (Starring Tammy Arnold, Sam Robison, Devin McGee, Lee Armstrong, Meredith Jackson and Jeffery Holler) — a dark comedy about five co-workers on their way to a company function who face adversity and discover some unexpected truths along the way. Times Like Dying (Starring Anthony Reynolds, Mike Holmes, Cullen Moss) Exhausted and on the run from a desperate bank robbery, a mangy gang finds shelter at a small farmhouse of a frail and sickly US Marshal. Soon the truth of their exploits come to light as Miss Ledbetter, the Marshal’s nursemaid, overhears their fireside conversation. She is taken hostage by the menacing Lonzell Dixon, who surprises her at gunpoint. Tensions escalate when Lonzell’s greed, lust, and struggle for power overtake him and the household. RATINGS: Monday night’s episode of Sleepy Hollow pulled a 1.5 in the ratings with 4.65M viewers in the A18-49 demo.
Our Under the Dome/The Longest Ride lady Britt Robertson landed a lead role in the Eddie Murphy movie, Cook, which is about a cook who is hired by a dying man to make meals for his girlfriend and his daughter after he passes. Eddie Murphy will play Henry Church, an artistic man who agrees to care for the dying Marie Brody and her daughter Charlotte for six months, only to end up ingrained in their lives for the next 15 years.

Remember after the election I told you about the possibility of Pat McCrory calling a special session for incentives. Well, it looks like it just might happen, HOWEVER, I was told not to get to excited because they will probably bring up everything BUT film. We shall see. It’s shame because we will lose Sleepy Hollow if they order a complete 3rd season. Canada is the latest rumor.
