Eriq LaSalle returns to Under the Dome for Season 3

First time around, the fabulous Eriq La Salle came to Wilmywood with his director’s cap on for episode 2.9 of Under the Dome. He got right into the local scene.  Eriq joined me on the Sunny Morning Show and even had a book signing at our Mayfaire Barnes & Noble.  This time he is back as a cast member!  He will play the ruthless Hektor Martin, the CEO of the energy company run by Barbie’s father played by Brett Cullen.  He will also return to direct this season.  Again the 9th episode.  Does he have a thing for the number nine?  Inquiring minds want to know!eriq-and-sheila-e1401983201400

We are SO proud and excited to have Eriq back. While you wait, you might as well pick up his book series ( Laws of Innocence, Laws of Depravity, Laws of Wrath) and give ’em a read!  He’s a fantastic writer!  Is there anything this man cannot do?

Welcome back Eriq!  We love you to pieces!

Under the Dome returns for its third season on Thursday, June 25 with a two-hour premiere 9pm EST on CBS.

Rumors from the Lot: Sleepy Hollow

Now it’s time for Rumors from the Lot! Many folks have been hanging on for some chance in hell that Sleepy Hollow will find a way to stay in Wilmington and not make the move to Atlanta. If you are one of the many, you are not gonna like what I have to tell you.

Rumor has it, starting next week, the 18-wheelers will be rolling on in. Starting with Stage 10 at EUE/Screen Gems, they are breaking down the sets as they prepare for season 3 in Atlanta.

The only bit of good news, bittersweet really, is that from what I heard they are hiring some of the original crew to do the tear down and set up in Atlanta. I also heard that they might be asking some of the crew members to move to Atlanta and continue working on the show. Especially those in set dec.

So, while folks will be working, it will be short lived for some, and a move away from their families for others should they choose to do so.

Can I confirm this? Not yet. Are my sources strong. Yes. Guess we will know for sure next week.

It’s a sad day for Wilmywood.

Tragedy Strikes NC Film Make-Up Artist at his home.

David Wayne is a well-respected and phenomenally creative make-up artist and sculptor in film production, and great-nephew of the famous Costume Designer for Gone With the Wind and many other films, Walter Plunkett. Because of his own work in feature films, David Wayne is an active member in good standing of IATSE Local 798 representing Make Up Artists and Hair Stylists and word is going out nationally to his union Brothers and Sisters.

On Friday, April 3, 2015, at his home in Rock Hill, SC, David Wayne Plunkett was gravely injured when a propane gas container exploded.

Chelsea, his wife and the mother of their 14-month old daughter, Catherine, had been in the kitchen when David had gone outside, saying he was about to mow the lawn. She was feeding Catherine when “there was a big, white flash and then, huge ‘BOOM!!’, and the den windows blew in.” Chelsea ran outside as David Wayne staggered toward her, and said “My arms. My arms.” and then he collapsed. Neighbors rushed over and were able to apply tourniquets to his arms, which were disastrously damaged. Within a relatively few minutes he was heli evac-ed to the Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, twenty miles away, and to the ER/Trauma facility there.

Devastatingly, David Wayne lost his right arm, which was severed six inches above the elbow from the explosion. His left arm was not destroyed but shattered, and doctors are operating again, today, trying to save it. His eyesight is hoped to be saved, and an MRI showed no life-threatening internal damage. His condition has been stabilized.

Chelsea, who is strong and calm as best she can be, has told us, “Thank God, he is alive” and “We will get through this.” And “thank everyone for their love and prayers.”

There will, of course, be more expenses which will not be covered by their insurance and we are are establishing the David Wayne Plunkett Fund to help in this tragic, life-changing situation.

Thank you for your prayers and concern and support for David Wayne, Chelsea and their little daughter, Catherine, in this crisis.

Sincerely yours,
John F. Davis and June Bateman

NC FILM: The 2015 Grant Recipients.

Raleigh, N.C.- North Carolina Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced three productions will receive funds from the newly established North Carolina Film and Entertainment Grant.

The three productions altogether are expected to have direct in-state spending of about $61 million across North Carolina this year with the grant program. Remember, just 6 months into 2014, the North Carolina Film Office reported an estimated $268 million in direct in-state spending when we had our previous 25% film incentives.

According to the NCFO, the film and entertainment grant recipients include:

Under The Dome (Season 3) shooting again in Wilmington. The television series uses the cities of Burgaw, Southport and Wilmington to create its fictitious town of Chester’s Mill. The eligible grant amount is $5 million.

An Untitled Lionsgate Television Project will also receive funding and is expected to shoot in Western North Carolina. The eligible grant amount is $4 million. (I believe this is Dirty Dancing, but don’t quote me on it)

Late in the Season is a story of a 31-year old Seattle stockbroker with a mysterious past who walks on to a small North Carolina college basketball team and inspires his struggling teammates’ lives with hope as they reach for a championship. The production will use the picturesque Davidson campus as its main location and will base in the greater Charlotte area. The eligible grant amount is $1 million.

In 2014, they boasted about nearly 19,000 job opportunities for North Carolinians. No mention yet how many job opportunities they are as of 2015.

During the past six years, productions have had a direct in-state spend of more than $1.3 billion.
