What are they up to now? One Tree Hill: Colin Fickes

The countdown continues! 9 days until Inside OTH: A cast and crew reunion and convention put on by some members of the producing team of our beloved show, One Tree Hill.

As another one of the original River Court boys, Jimmy Edwards played by Colin Fickes, had it good. He was quiet and shy, but was happy, so it seemed,  with just him and his boys: Skills, Lucas Junk, Fergie and Mouth hanging out, playing basketball on a Saturday night avoiding the popular kids and never having a care in the world.

Jim5

But things changed when Lucas joined the basketball team and Mouth following along continuing his play by play.  They drifted apart from Jimmy, and they had no idea how much that crushed him. But after his time capsule was released, Jimmy brought a gun to school in Season 3, and emotions and  blood were shed.

It was one of the most powerful episodes in One Tree Hill‘s nine-season run. Now, if you wanna know what it was like to play a character like Jimmy, you’re going to have to ask him yourself at Inside OTH. But I can tell you what he is up to now.

Unlike many of his peers, he went in a different direction.  He kept acting for a few more years, but being a business owner is where his passion fled.

colinphoto“I’m currently, living in New York City. I started a cold pressed juice company in Raleigh, NC back in 2012. We were Raleigh’s first organic, raw, cold-pressed juice company.”

He’s talking about Humdinger Juice. And it’s pretty awesome! They deliver, as well as sell from several retail outlets in the area. Their hub in Raleigh is open Sunday-Friday! Check it out at www.humdingerjuice.com

So what does Colin miss most about Wilmington?  “The people and the places. The trees, the water, ALL OF IT!” Yep, sounds about right!

Come meet Colin and the rest of the One Tree Hill gang at Inside OTH!

What are they up to now? One Tree Hill: Cullen Moss

The countdown continues! 10 days until Inside OTH: A cast and crew reunion and convention put on by some members of the producing team of our beloved show, One Tree Hill.

As one of the original Rivercourt boys, Wilmington, NC based actor Cullen Moss played Junk, the friend who through the years stuck around the Scott family through Nathan and Lucas’ bad times, and later on in life as a sometimes questionable babysitter for Nathan and Haley’s son, Jamie. Not that he was bad at the job per say, but more like he was always out-smarted by the young lad.

So, what is Cullen Moss up to now?

“I’m raising my three boys with my beautiful, talented wife, Madison. I continue to work as an actor. I recently worked for four weeks on Hidden Figures with Taraji Henson, Kevin Costner, Jim Parsons, and Kimberly Quinn, that will have a limited release in theaters around December, and then will get wide release around January. I’ve also been shooting episodes on the new Fox television drama, Shots Fired. It’s very timely (about an investigation of possible police misconduct in a small, southern town).  I play the lawyer to Richard Dreyfus’s character.”

You will also get the chance to see Cullen in a couple films that will be released this fall, The Birth of a Nation and Keeping up With the Joneses.

DSC01987

I would normally ask the cast what they missed the most about Wilmington, however, Cullen has been a resident about 20 years. So, my question to Cullen is WHY?  Why do you love living here in Wilmington?

“Its thriving arts community. That’s part of what drew me here. I’ve cultivated some beautiful friendships (many of those friends are in the theatre and film community). I started my family here. There’s a natural beauty to Wilmington that’s hard to beat… the Cape Fear, running through downtown; all the surrounding marshes and wetlands; Greenfield Lake; Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches. Ultimately, it’s the people here, the friendships, the vibrant theatre community, and the strong core of filmmakers- writers, technicians, actors, who (despite Pat McCrory and the destructive efforts of the NCGA) want to continue to call Wilmington home.”

Yeah, in case you didn’t know, the struggle to keep NC Film alive is real. It’s been a tough battle with our lawmakers. But we will survive and hopefully thrive once again. Inside OTH is a STRONG supporter of NC Film.  That’s why a portion of proceeds for this event is benefiting the local film community in Wilmington — a scholarship fund is at the Cape Fear Community College for the Film Tech program.

What are they up to now? One Tree Hill: Lee Norris

The countdown continues!  11  days until Inside OTH: A cast and crew reunion and convention put on by some members of the producing team of our beloved show, One Tree Hill.

Lee Norris, as you know, played the adorable Marvin “Mouth” McFadden on One Tree Hill.  He was always the guy who wanted to do the right thing at all times, but there were some circumstances as the seasons went on that clouded his judgement.  That being said, his heart was always in the right place.  He was a friend that you could count on.  How many times did you hear Brooke or Nathan or Haley say, “You’re a good friend Mouth.” And true to his character, he pretty much is that guy in real life.  We are definitely proud to take ownership of this North Carolina native!

DSC00270

So what is he doing now?

“Since OTH ended I’ve been pursuing more acting roles,” says Lee. “I’m also exploring some new behind-the-scenes opportunities. I had a blast shooting a cameo in Gone Girl and most recently have been recurring in Girl Meets World as Stuart Minkus (aka Farkle’s dad).

Yep! Lee Norris was already famous to the tween world before One Tree Hill aired as he played the quirky and annoying Know-it-all, Stuart Minkus on Boy Meets World. But we loved him any way.  And who knew his character would make a comeback years later!

DSC00555

As far as being away from Wilmington, he does miss it!

“I miss everything about Wilmington — the amazing people first and foremost, but also the food! I have constant food cravings for Brasserie, Caprice, Tower 7, PT’s, and too many others to name. In fact, some of my very good friends from Wilmington recently surprised me by shipping some Tower 7 salsa all the way to LA, packaged in dry ice. It was awesome!!”

Wow! That’s true friendship right there!

What are they up to now? One Tree Hill: Barbara Alyn Woods

We are 12 days away from Inside OTH: A cast and crew reunion and convention put on by some members of the producing team of our beloved show, One Tree Hill.

Many of the cast were members of our community for 9 years. They were our neighbors, our friends. So what have they been up to since the show went off the air in 2012?  Let’s find out.

DSC05872

Barbara Alyn Woods played Deb Scott, the mother of Nathan Scott and wife of the dubious Dan Scott. Later in the series she became known as Nanny Deb to Nathan and Haley’s son Jamie, because God forbid you call her Grandma!

So what is she up to now?  What is she not up to!  “I am multi-tasking everyday,” says Barbara.  She’s still in the acting scene, but not just for herself. Both of her daughters also caught the acting bug. You may have seen her daughter Alyvia in the Sandler, Barrymore flick Blended or in Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors playing young Dolly Parton.

DSC07190

“I am juggling my career with my daughters’ full- time careers,” says Barbara. “I’m currently jumping from Atlanta to Puerto Rico to New York…Never a dull day.”

Quite a different lifestyle then when she was on One Tree Hill, having the luxury of staying in one place for a bit. So, what does Barbara miss most about Wilmington?

“What do I miss most about Wilmy? What don’t I miss? I miss the white beaches, the warm water, the days my family spent in Wrightsville Beach were absolutely the best ever. I miss MY FRIENDS!!!”

DSC07068

You would think that would be enough, but oh no! Wait, there’s more!

“I miss the people in general. Landfall (a community near Wrightsville Beach), Halloweens. Nobody does it better.  The studio (EUE/Screen Gems), the boat parade (Flotilla), Azalea Festival!”Wilmington_Azalea_Festival-wm

And of course she names One Tree Hill. She says the memories will be in her heart forever.

Barbara Alyn Woods won’t have to wait much longer, and neither will you! Inside OTH is less than two weeks away!

Under The Dome Returns to Wilmywood for a 3rd Season!

Yep!  It’s official.  After months of consideration and some really hard work from a few folks, Under the Dome will be returning to Wilmywood after all.  WECT confirmed the information with EUE/Screen Gems Vice Prez Bill Vassar less than an hour ago.

CBS made the announcement earlier today that there was indeed a Season 3.

GET IT DONE: IN 25 MINUTES A DAY!

From the press release from EUE/Screen Gems Studios:

“We are thrilled to host ‘Under the Dome’ at our studios for 2015,” Vassar said. “We extend our gratitude to North Carolina Secretary of Commerce Sharon Decker for helping make this possible.”

“Retaining the production of “Under the Dome” provides economic stability for hundreds of North Carolina film workers and several hundred of Wilmington’s small businesses. Renewal of this production was critical to our local area,” Vassar says.  SEE MORE

It’s not 4200  jobs, but at least we can know some of our Wilmington families will be working until Summer and won’t have to leave the state.

If politicians think that this will calm us down, they are dead wrong!  This is one crew.  We can go 5 crews deep in Wilmington, plus we have crew in Charlotte, Asheville and WInston-Salem that still need a job! We have a long way to go until we get Tier 1 film incentives back, so make sure you get out and VOTE!  We need the right folks in place during the 2015 Long Session so we can indeed have that status once again!

More on this tomorrow morning!

Wilmington 4th Grader Helps the Homeless

THIS NEEDS TO SPREAD LIKE A WILDFIRE! READ BELOW AND SHARE!!!

Okay, so this might not be film related, but this little girl is a superstar in my book and I had to let you know about her!  Her mother sent me an email this morning and I had to share!

Dear Sheila,
We listen to you every morning on the way to school, and love that you are always positive and spreading happiness and kindness (even about merging traffic from Leland!) So we thought you might be able to help. After watching a youtube video (see below) about homelessness, my (almost) 9 year old decided to take action here in Wilmington. I’ll let her tell you in her own words (below.)

“Hi my name is Leah. I am 4th grader in Wilmington, NC, and I want to help homeless people get ready for job interviews. To do this I am collecting extra business clothes and toiletries (makeup, baby wipes, tooth brushes, etc.). I think with these things, homeless people will look better and feel more confident when they are getting interviewed. Giving food and money to the homeless is a very great thing to do, but it only really lasts for a couple days. With a job they can get a lot of money every day to buy food and maybe find a home if they get a good one. I was inspired by the woman at the end of the video below, and wanted to find a way to help.

So, if you have business clothes that you don’t need any more or if you have some extra toiletries like the ones listed above or other things that you think would help homeless people might use to feel more presentable I will be at the Food Lion parking lot on South College Drive at 17th Street, every Sunday from 10:00am to 12:00pm now until Thanksgiving. Look for my mom’s big blue minivan. I’ll be there and my dog Otis will probably be there too. I hope you will donate and we can put a stop to homelessness.”

You go girl! Go Leah! We got your back! So everyone, please share this.  My heart grew 3 sizes reading this email her mother sent and I am not even remotely a Grinch!
